Kona Joe Coffee Internship
Overview
The Kona Joe Coffee Internship is a 12‑week immersive program designed to provide hands‑on education in every stage of specialty coffee. Interns work directly with trained Coffee Ambassadors to develop professional skills in coffee preparation, production, and farm operations.
What You’ll Learn
• Operation of commercial espresso machines
• Preparation of the full range of specialty coffee beverages
• Coffee cultivation, processing, roasting, grinding, and brewing
• Drum roasting techniques and fundamentals
• Daily exposure to coffee marketing and sales
• Visitor engagement, greeting guests, and leading tours
• Optional farm work, including planting young coffee trees and picking/processing coffee cherries
At the end of the program, interns receive a formal certificate of Coffee Training and Competence.
Program Structure
• Duration: 12 weeks
• Schedule: 32 hours of work per week
• Work alongside experienced Coffee Ambassadors and farm staff
• Balance of hands‑on training, education, and customer‑facing activity
Compensation & Housing
• Room and board provided in exchange for 32 hours of weekly work
• On‑property intern housing
• Private room provided when available
• Shared bathroom and community kitchen
• On‑site laundry facilities
• Grocery store located nearby
Intern Responsibilities
• Maintain a professional, friendly presence with guests
• Participate fully in training and daily coffee operations
• Assist with beverage preparation, tours, and retail activities
• Support farm operations as needed
