Barista is the Italian word for
'bartender'. However, it means far more than a person who attends bar. The Barista is to coffee as the Enologist is
to wine. The Barista is the coffee aficionado who combines his skill, knowledge
and artistry
to prepare the perfect shot of Espresso.
About Espresso
Espresso is the fundamental element of the many coffee drinks enjoyed around the world.
Espresso is a method of coffee extraction.
Surprisingly, Espresso is not a particular type of coffee. The perfect cup of
Espresso will vary from one Barista to the next since each selects a different variety
of coffee.
Common Espresso Drinks
Cappuccino 1/3 espresso + 2/3 steamed and frothed milk. Variations range from the "dry capp" made with less steamed milk and more stiff foam to the "wet capp" made with more of a wet foam consistency.
Caffee Latte Italian for "coffee and milk". Similar to cappuccino but with more milk. Typically 1/4 espresso and 3/4 steamed milk with a thin layer of foamed milk on top.
Caffee Mocha Italian for "espresso and chocolate". Espresso + Chocolate and of course steamed milk.
Espresso Romano Caesars favorite. Espresso with a twist of lemon.
Espresso Con Panna Espresso with a dollop of whipped cream.
Caffe Americano A perfect shot of espresso diluted with hot water to create an Americanized cup of coffee.
